The charismatic Languedoc winery Domaine de L’Ostal (J-M Cazes Family) is now part of our Portfolio!
The story started in 2002, when the prominent Cazes Family purchased two neighboring estates in the small town of La Livinière and combined them to create a new singular 370-acre (150 ha) domaine, with 148 acres (60 ha) of vineyards and 62 ac (25 ha) of olive groves.
Already the owner of the Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac (the famous Bordeaux Grand Cru Classé), Jean-Michel Cazes spent many years in Languedoc seeking out for the most magnificent terroirs. He felt in love with the commune of La Livinière, the birthplace of Minervois and the first appellation to have been classified as a, “Cru du Languedoc”!
Delphine was raised in France yet she became an expert in the wines of Western Australia and Tasmania. Only later did she return to her roots in the South of France to manage production for several Languedoc vineyards.
In October 2016, she joined the Domaine de L’Ostal as the Technical Director of the Estate. Her winemaking strategies include fermenting at the high temperatures up to 82°F (28°C) for the first four days with frequent ‘rack-and-return’ and pumping during long macerations periods (of 20 to 24 days). This process gives the wines an outstanding concentration, fleshiness and smooth texture. All of the wines of Domaine de L’Ostal are all vegan, and starting with the 2018 vintage, are recognized as High Environmental Value, the highest sustainable certification.
