On Tuesday, October 5, 2021, Cognac One gathered over one hundred wine industry members at The Peninsula Hotel NY for an exceptional tasting of Bordeaux Grands Crus Classés. Forty-seven wines were featured, each of them estate-sourced via top Bordeaux négociant CVBG.

The curated selection showcased a diverse range of vintages, appellations and châteaux. Many of the wines needed no introduction – international icons such as Margaux 2008, Figeac 2010, Yquem 2011. But some of the most talked-about bottles at the event were in fact the rare gems not currently seen in the market: Coutet 2017, Saint-Pierre (Pomerol) 2016, Mangot 2016, Belgrave 2016, Mauvesin Barton 2018 and Marsau 2016.

“I felt like the kid in the candy store,” said Mary Gorman-McAdams, Master of Wine, “surrounded by so much lovely Bordeaux.”

The invitation-only tasting took place in The Gotham Lounge, an elegant and iconic destination at The Peninsula Hotel on 5th Avenue, New York. To reduce crowds and enhance the tasting experience, guests registered to attend during one-hour sessions throughout the day.

Top wine buyers from across New York and New Jersey had the opportunity to taste before placing orders for their businesses. Samples of many of these wines are rarely available, so the event offered exceptional access for these Bordeaux buyers to taste their investments in advance.

This inaugural event served as an overture to Cognac One’s collector wine expansion in 2022 and beyond. A rising leader in luxury wines, the portfolio already includes over one hundred top vintages for next-day delivery such as Haut Brion 2015, Latour 2012, Cheval Blanc 2014, and Léoville-Poyferré 1995. In partnership with CVBG, all of the wines are sourced directly from the estates. The bottles receive white-glove care abroad in state-of-the-art facilities followed by temperature-controlled shipment and storage stateside.
